Activities

Not just a place to sleep — more to enjoy than one visit allows
Activities at MATSUKAWAKAN

There is more pleasure here than the words “hot-spring inn” can hold.

The Tenku Sauna, looking out on the view from 1,000 m above sea level
Tenku Sauna

Activity 01

Tenku Sauna
A private sauna with a view, for overnight guests

At 1,000 m above sea level. A private sauna with a sweeping view, wrapped in stars and mountain ridgelines. Look out over the gorge and the mountains below as you reach totonoi — the settled calm — in an hour of pure ease.

Activity 02

Forest Sauna
The “forest of totonoi,” where you feel nature breathe

A public sauna where you give yourself over to the sounds of nature (private use also possible). A rough-hewn sauna surrounded by trees. Give yourself to the sounds of nature, and settle deeply.

Activity 04

Inner Bath
Free-flowing hot spring water that reaches the core of you

An inner bath fed 100% by free-flowing water straight from the source. Loosen the body slowly, into a calm like toji — therapeutic hot-spring bathing.

Activity 05

The Public Bathhouse Walk
A stroll in yukata, into the culture of toji

Within walking distance are the historic communal bathhouses Oyu and Takinoyu. Going round the baths scattered through the village, each with a character of its own, is what remains of the culture of toji — therapeutic hot-spring bathing. Step out in your yukata and take the walk at your own pace.

Retro Games

Back to Childhood — Retro Games

A retro games corner with Showa-era machines and the Famicom and Super Famicom. Play with your children, or sink into nostalgia among adults. And a hot-spring inn, of course, means table tennis. One game after the bath and everyone is in high spirits.
