How to Spend — The TOJI.ba MATSUKAWAKAN
How to spend your stay at The TOJI.ba MATSUKAWAKAN.
The inner bath, the private open-air bath, the public bathhouses, the Forest Sauna, the private Tenku Sauna, the Secret Bar, dinner, breakfast and the sights nearby. There is a great deal here at MATSUKAWAKAN. Please find the way of enjoying it that suits you.
Day 1 — Check-in
From check-in until night. Here there is a day that exists only for settling.
15:00
Into an inn wrapped in the scent of wood. Tea in the lobby, and a first breath after the journey.

16:00
To Takinoyu and Oyu, plain communal bathhouses that local people have loved for years. A quiet kind of bathing, as though you had dissolved into everyday life in Takayama Village.

17:00
A sauna cabin surrounded by wild nature. Cooling off in the open air, there is nothing but the sway of the trees and the sound of the river. You no longer need to think about anything.

18:00
Gibier grilled at the irori hearth, a mushroom hot pot scented with plum dashi — the food that settles you, and belongs to MATSUKAWAKAN alone.

20:00
A fire lit in the night forest, and sauna time for overnight guests only. A special night, wrapped in a moving flame and a sky full of stars as you settle.

22:00
A fully private open-air bath, wrapped in steam and moonlight. To finish the settling, a moon-viewing drink in hand, and mind and body reset.

Day 2 — Morning
The settling of the night carries on into the morning. Morning at MATSUKAWAKAN is time to come slowly back to yourself.
7:00
In the clear air of the morning, the Forest Sauna and the inner bath show you another face. This is the hour in which senses that were asleep wake up, little by little.

8:00
Zosui rice porridge made with last night's fermented dashi and Shinshu mushrooms — a settling breakfast that warms you from the core.

9:30
A morning with a little time left before checkout. Read a book, look at the sky — here, simply taking it easy is the right answer.

10:00
Home again, slowly, carrying a quiet that makes you think you will come back.

Media
A television personality who is also a manga artist and an illustrator came to cover MATSUKAWAKAN. It packs in how to spend your time here and what makes the place good, so please do have a look.
There is a day-use plan with the Forest Sauna and the onsen, and a private-room lunch where ordering lunch makes the onsen free.
If you are looking for something beyond the inn, see also autumn colours in the Matsukawa Gorge, which sets out when each altitude turns.
Reservation
It is not only the body that settles. The sauna loosens you, the water heals you, the food fills you.
Only when mind and body become one do you truly settle. That is the kind of journey MATSUKAWAKAN has in it.
