YAMADA ONSEN · NAGANO
Concept — The TOJI.ba MATSUKAWAKAN
This is the concept behind The TOJI.ba MATSUKAWAKAN.
Philosophy
A place wrapped in nature, where mind and body return to who you really are.
MATSUKAWAKAN stands in Takayama Village, Nagano. The quiet of Yamada Onsen, a hot spring first opened 700 years ago; saunas held in the arms of the woods; food that is a life received. It is a place you return to by coming into harmony with all of it.

In the Tenku Sauna, under a sky full of stars, you connect with the silence; in the Forest Sauna, with the stir of the trees, you become one with nature. You give yourself to a source that has flowed for 700 years, and you receive the life raised on this land as gibier (wild game). It is time spent listening for what nature is doing, and letting yourself go with the current of living things.

It reminds you that you were, all along, a part of nature.
Simply to return to nature, to listen for your own voice, to face the person who matters to you. In those moments, we believe, comes the feeling of returning to who you really are.

The heart grows suddenly lighter, and the care you feel for yourself and for the people close to you becomes purer of its own accord. That is why, when you get back there, the distance between you and the person who matters quietly closes.
There is a place you can surely reach only here — in this land, wrapped in this nature, through the air of this inn. That place is The TOJI.ba MATSUKAWAKAN.
The onsen, the saunas, the food. Each has a page of its own, with the details.
