YAMADA ONSEN · NAGANO
Sauna Stay — Day-use vs Overnight
You can enjoy the saunas at MATSUKAWAKAN on a day visit too. But stay the night and sauna use becomes free, and 20:00–23:00 belongs to overnight guests alone. The inner bath stays open until 24:00. From check-in to check-out is about 23 hours — here is the difference, in numbers.
Day-use or Stay
The Forest Sauna is available on a day visit as well, from ¥2,300 (tax included) for 120 minutes. Between 10:00 and 20:00 (last entry 20:00), anyone can enjoy it in a swimsuit and poncho — an easy, unfussy sauna.
Choose a stay plan, on the other hand, and use of the Forest Sauna is included free. On top of that, 20:00–23:00 is a time only overnight guests may enter. The fire is lit, and in the quiet after the day visitors have gone home, you can settle slowly.
The inner bath, too, is open 11:00–20:00 for day visitors, but 11:00–24:00 if you stay. From check-in at 15:00 to check-out at 10:00 — about 23 hours — the very shape of the time you spend at MATSUKAWAKAN changes.

In Numbers
From check-in at 15:00 to check-out at 10:00. There is sauna and onsen time in the evening and the morning that a day visit cannot give you.
Compare
The Forest Sauna, the inner bath and the Tenku Sauna are the same either way, but the hours and the prices change between a day visit and a stay. Set the numbers side by side and the difference is easy to see.

Guests Only — 20:00-23:00
Day-use entry to the Forest Sauna closes at 20:00. For overnight guests, the 20:00–23:00 that follows is reserved time. The fire is lit, the place has gone quiet, and you can work through sauna, cold-water bath and open-air rest at your own pace, with no crowds to think about.
Cooling off in the open air under a sky full of stars belongs to this hour too. It is the night face of MATSUKAWAKAN, and a day visit cannot show it to you.
Morning — Guests Only
Stay the night and you get the sauna and the hot spring not only in the evening but the next morning as well. Until check-out at 10:00, your time at MATSUKAWAKAN goes on.
7:00
The Forest Sauna and the inner bath show another face in the clear air of the morning. A time when senses that were asleep slowly wake up.

8:00
A zosui rice porridge made with last night’s fermented dashi and Shinshu mushrooms — the “settling breakfast” that warms you from the core.

9:30
A morning with a little time left before check-out. Read a book, look at the sky, or simply take it slowly — here, that is the right answer.

10:00
Carrying a quiet that makes you think “let’s come again,” take your time on the way home.

Rooms
Nine rooms in all, every one based on a Japanese room. Two types: the “Japanese-Western Room”, which combines the kindness of tatami and a bed, and the “Japanese Room”, looking out on the trees and the river.
Day use of the Forest Sauna is from ¥2,300 (tax included). The day-use onsen starts at ¥650 and needs no reservation.
Reservation
The Forest Sauna becomes free, and 20:00–23:00 belongs to overnight guests alone. The inner bath is open until 24:00, and the sauna and the hot spring are waiting again the next morning.
Please book through the official booking site (CHILLNN).
